ALL ABOUT GRENADA
Nestled at the southern- most tip of the Eastern Caribbean island chain lies Grenada, the tri-island state comprising the islands of Grenada, Carriacou and Petit Martinique. Grenada is also known as the ‘Isle of Spice’ because of the abundance of spices grown there.

A volcanic island with a colourful history, Grenada was once been inhabited by indigenous peoples – the Caribs and Arawaks. Originally colonised by the French then the British, Grenada gained its independence in 1974.

Its capital, St. George’s has been described as the most picturesque in the Caribbean. It is the hub of commercial activity and houses the Cruise Ship Terminal, the port, retail banks and shops.

The official currency is the East Caribbean dollar, which is pegged to the US dollar at an exchange rate of US$1.00 = EC$2.70, although US dollars are also accepted island-wide, as are most major credit cards and travelers cheques.

General Business hours are 08.00hrs to 16.00hrs. Banking hours are 08.00hrs to 14.00hrs Monday to Thursday and 08.00hrs to 16.00hrs on Friday.

The population is approximately 100,000. There are good educational facilities on the island to include the renowned St. George’s University. The economy is mainly tourism and agriculturally based.

Temperatures in Grenada range from 26C to 30C year round and there are lots of cultural and physical activities and attractions to be enjoyed.

Although many people come to the island to enjoy the beaches, which include the world renowned Grand Anse Beach and other white and black sand beaches, there are several other fun things to do such as yachting, diving, sport fishing, turtle watching, sight seeing, sporting and many more.

Located 12°North, Grenada has long been favored by yachting enthusiasts for its safe anchorage, access to multiple marina facilities and chandleries including the internationally renowned Camper & Nicholson, a leading marina operator who has made Grenada their home at Port Louis.

Several regattas are held annually, which attract international attention with visiting crews and boats from around the Caribbean and the world.
Grenada has so much to offer, from its warm and friendly people who are quick with a smile, to the vast expanse of Grand Anse beach and the magnificence of the Rain Forest.

The Crater Lake at Grand Etang is one of the most undisturbed areas; a peaceful experience watching the fish splashing to the surface when offered some bread and the mostly untouched serene beauty of the surroundings.

Bathe in a pool of cool water under Concorde Falls, visit a rum distillery or taste the wonderful chocolate made right here in Grenada - you are always guaranteed to have a good time!
